FRANCO ONALI

In strength
of the fragile self
rigor is founded
of an introspection
where is it the real of the ethical defines the possibilities
of lyrical abandonment
where is it
the eros of living
it is the flesh of color
and the sweat of anxiety is the caesura
of the wound

The quality of style in Onali
remains faithful to
visual sensitivity of the painter.

(…) is a shy man and has always thought more about solving
his creative problems inside the studio
that to try to bring them on the plastic pages of a catalog.

Anna Roncoroni presents Franco Onali

Story of a love made of magical coincidences and molecular combinations, born between wounds and gauze. A different story, I was lucky, in these long years of coexistence, spent between the monastic cell of Via Dei Coronari where we currently live, and the huge green spaces of the Tuscan Emilian Apennines, to observe the birth of his works day after day! A long journey from the 1950s to today, which has gone through many stages. I didn’t know him then, but through the canvases, I lived his deep memories. With images he continually recreates his story, and he continues to face the same problem a hundred thousand times, varying the approach. He is agile in moving from one theme to another, and does not care if a painting seems apparently unfinished. The continuous research, gives power to his art, and his pictures-frames, with colors with tonal relationships, arise from his ideas-thoughts. He can be charming or unfriendly depending on his mood, but remains unyieldingly faithful to a single passion: freedom. Despite the passing of the years, vitality and movement do not cease to grow, giving us values of pure creativity and poetry, thus manifesting his psychic intoxication.
